Adnan, Fitzgerald set to signPosted: August 16, 2011
The pieces for next seasons title defence are falling into place, with a report today from the Courier Mail that both Bahrani trialist Sayed Mohamed Adnan and former Central Coast NYL midfielder Nick Fitzgerald are close to signing deals with the club.
Adnan, 28, who has 79 caps for Bahrain will bring a bunch of experience to the squad aswell as a bunch of options for Postecoglou who now has Adnan, Matt Smith, new signing Matt Jurman and Matt Mundy fighting for a position in central defence. Postecoglou said of Adnan: “I was never trialling his ability. To me that was never in doubt and never in question. He wanted to feel comfortable with us, and he’s fitted in very well with the whole group.” I’ve only seen him play the once in a sub appearnce vs Rochedale and he looked handy without beeing spectacular, hopefully he gets some significant game time against City tommrow and Brisbane Strikers next week.
Young Fitzgeralds situation is a bit different with the report stating that he would get “atleast a full time youth contract” as opposed to the full time 1st team deal that Adnan will be getting. Fitzgerald has been in terrific form in the pre-season so far, banging in 5 goals in 8 preseason matches, including a well taken double vs Rochedale 2 weeks ago. Fitzgerald would definatly add something to the team as a squad player at least, and might even get bumped up to a 1st team deal should Matt McKay’s protracted transfer to Rangers come off.
