New Ownership Group?Posted: August 16, 2011
Since Football Federation Australia took control of the club in the days following the grand final victory, we’ve heard very little in relation to a potential new ownership group, until now.
Today Mike Cockerill of the Sydney Morning Herald wrote this article claiming that a new ownership group coming from Indonesia could be interested in buying into the club.
Thankfully for Postecoglou, it’s the ACL which is also a priority for the club’s likely new majority shareholder, Indonesian billionaire Aburizal Bakrie, whose family owns Indonesia’s most popular club, Pelita Jaya, as well as a minority stake in English second-tier side Leicester City. Bakrie representatives were in Brisbane last weekend to run the rule over their Australian investment, with an announcement of the Roar’s new ownership structure – set to also include a consortium of local businessmen – believed to be imminent.
Its good to hear that there are groups interested in investing in the club and hopefully this issue is sorted out before the season begins. The artcle goes on to say that the potential new ownership group is targeting the ACL and is considering the possiblilty of a marquee signing to boost the squad, which would be great to see as the club hasnt really had a true marquee in its history.
