Roar women get the win on the Sunshine Coast.

Brisbane Roar have continued their solid W-League title defence with a 2-0 victory up on the Sunshine Coast this afternoon against Adelaide United. The game as a whole was an even, end to end contest with Adelaide being far from disgraced and on another day may have grabbed a point for themselves, with Brisbane keeper Casey Dumont making some important saves. Her counterpart in goal for Adelaide was also very good and won the player of the game award from ABC TV.

Brisbane opened the scoring early on via a Catherine Cannuli corner which was over hit but found its way to Avi Luik on the edge of the box via Tameka Butt amongst others who smashed the ball home into the bottom corner of the net.  The second goal came when captain Claire Polkinghorne played a perfect through ball to Emily Gielnik who slotted home over the onrushing keeper and into the bottom corner of the net to secure the points in the first of 3 additional minutes. All in all a good result for the Roar girls and their goal of finishing top of the pile is still within reach.

Just one quick thing on ABC, it’s fantastic that they cover the W-League, but can they please find a new commentator, Peter Wilkins gets excited far too often about things that aren’t exactly exciting.
