Youth go down 5-2 in Cleveland

It was a disappointing afternoon for Brisbane Roar youth as they went down 5-2 against the ladder leading Melbourne Heart side down at the Cleveland Showgrounds. It seemed to start off well for Brisbane with two goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game, the first of which came via an own goal from ex Roar youth player Joshua Groenewald. Matt Thurtell then doubled the lead not long after and it appeared to be business as usual for the Roar as they took that early 2-0 lead into half time.

Melbourne Heart however in the space of just 18 second half minutes managed to lay on five unanswered goals to put the match well and truly beyond doubt. David Williams got their 1st in the 70th minute before super sub Zac Walker stepped up with a 10 minute hat trick that put the game to bed. Ex Roar boy Williams rounded out the scoring 2 minutes from time with his 2nd and Heart’s 5th. Not a great afternoon for the Roar youngsters, but plenty of games for them to bounce back starting next Saturday at Suncorp against the Mariners youth.
