Earlier in the week it appeared like every Brisbane Roar fans Christmas wish would be granted with the news that injured quartet Matt Smith, James Meyer, Thomas Broich and Henrique would be fit for the derby, but at this stage it appears that only Meyer and Smith will be at Skilled Park on Monday night. Those additions will be valuable and having the skipper back in defence should calm things down back there quiet a lot, im tipping Jurman is the man to make way from the XI, but it could go either way. Hingert will probably be the man to miss the match day XV.
Meyer will probably have to be content with a super sub role, which is something that suits him quiet well it appears. I would be in favour of starting him due to his goal scoring threat and because imo Danning is far more dangerous off the bench, but I can see Ange starting Danning following his impressive display last week. Visconte or Brattan could be the unlucky man, I’ve guessed it will be Brattan, but I could be wrong. Heck Hingert could displace both of them on the bench possibly.
With Miron it’s important to point out that it is incredibly difficult to predict what he will do, but I’ve had a crack at it regardless. Despite his recent flutters with a back 3, I expect he will revert to a back 4 in this game, no specific reason as to why it’s just a hunch. In goals Bleiberg has all but confirmed Jerrad Tyson will be in goals, with new signing Chris O’Connor the most likely backup for mine.
Beyond that I don’t see any reason to make a change from last week’s game in Adelaide for GCU, who played pretty well in that match. On the bench I can see a change or 2 however, with Jonas Salley returning from suspension taking the place of ex Roar boy Daniel Bowles. The other change im predicting is the addition of speedster Gol-Gol Mebrahtu to the bench, with Bleiberg likely to unleash his pace on the game late in the 2nd half.

Keys to the game:
Brisbane simply must bounce back this week, and if the 2nd half there were signs they were back to their best but they just couldn’t find that killer pass against the sturdy Mariners defence. Things should be somewhat different against a Gold Coast defence which is by no means poor, but is a step down from Wilkinson and Zwaanswijk. Fans may want a less risky approach and a plan B, but it’s not going to happen.
As for Gold Coast many teams have shown many different ways to beat the previously unbeatable Roar so there’s no shortage of ways the can do it. I suspect they come out and use the pace of their youngsters in the wide areas on the counter attack to some extent, but they will also try and play a bit of football as well.
Finally, Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this page, your support is greatly appreciated. Relax and enjoy tommrow, and don’t forget to be loud and let the Gold Coast know you’re there on Monday night.
