Bossi: McKay deal could occur next week.Posted: August 8, 2013
Via Dominic Bossi: Ever since he announced his mutual termination of his Changchun Yatai contract last week, Brisbane fans everywhere have been hoping that the former captain and foundation player would return to the River City for the upcoming season- and now, it could be about to happen. Those at Perry Park last night will not have failed to notice the ‘bring back Matt’ banner on the fence imploring the football department to re-sign him, and im sure it wasn’t in reference to the now Sydney FC defender Matt Jurman.
Today, it was revealed that Brisbane are in advanced talks to re-sign their former skipper as the Australian marquee player. While he says they are in advanced talks and a deal could be finalised as early as next week. However he goes on to say that there is interest from an unknown Asian club who are pushing hard to sign Matt.
At a guess, given it’s likely to be a marquee player contract, it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up being offered a deal similar to that of Thomas Broich, who received a 4 year contract reportedly worth over a million dollars. Whatever it ends up being, it will be fantastic to see one of the clubs most revered players back in the orange.
While talking about the football department, the club today also confirmed the signing of Luciano Trani as assistant coach to Mike Mulvey. Trani has a host of experience in the A-League with Wellington and Adelaide and reportedly had a well researched dossier on each player in the competition. He joins Mulvey (Head Coach), Jason Kearton (GK coach), Ken Stead (Conditioning Coach) and Jeff Hopkins (NYL Coach) in the clubs football department.
