Brisbane Roar have continued their solid pre-season form with a 1-0 win yesterday afternoon out at the North Ipswich Reserve against Melbourne Victory. An 83rd minute goal from Kwame Yeboah was the difference between the two sides.
In truth it wasn’t the greatest of games with the state of the pitch preventing both sides from playing their best football. Regardless of the state of the pitch however, both sides tried to play football. The majority of the match was played in the middle third with very little space for either side. Both sides then decided to try and break the opposition by playing direct balls in behind the defence.
Victory were a little out of sorts for mine, with their best chance coming early in the match when Conor Pain played in Nabbout who rounded Theo before shooting and wide. Francesco Stella made their job tougher however with a sending off for two yellow cards- the first of which was incredibly daft.
Brisbane scored the only goal of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining when Kwame Yeboah got on the end of a loose ball following a 50-50 between Clut and Broxham, before slotting it past Coe. The celebration –Aloisi esque run down the line before a Nani-esque flip- and that was just in a pre-season game.
Shane Stefanutto went off early in the first half with a knee injury–replaced by Brandon Borello who slotted in further forward with Brown moving to LB- however it doesn’t sound like it’s a serious injury.
Up next: Brisbane head further west as they head out to Toowoomba Grammar School to take on Western Pride on Wednesday Afternoon.
