Ken Stead named Football DirectorPosted: September 17, 2013
Brisbane have today announced that the clubs strength and conditioning coach Ken Stead has been elevated to the position of Football Director. The appointment comes as the result of an internal review which seems to have been going continuously since the ownership changed in 2011. Stead will at least partially fill the role left by former coach Rado Vidosic, who departed in June for Sydney FC. The new role will see him overlook of all 3 Brisbane Roar sides as they attempt to integrate the successful program in the A-League to both the youth and women’s teams.
Stead, who was former boss Ange Postecoglou’s first appointment at the club back in 2010 has been integral in the clubs turn around in fortunes on the park with his training methods providing a decided edge to the squad. Just recently at the clubs fans forum Dobson outlined the importance of Stead’s work saying that he’s planned out 90 days ahead.
It remains to be seen what sort of impact or input Stead will have in this new role, but given his standing within the club it’s fair to imagine he’ll be integral- at least in the season planning and conditioning elements. Hopefully Stead either continues in his hands on role with the A-League side, or they get him to recommend someone to continue his work because it has been a vital component to the recent success.
Incoming Brisbane Football Director Ken Stead:
“I’m honoured and privileged to be the Football Director,”.
“As the only Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League club in the state, we take the responsibility of inspiring young Queenslanders to play, enjoy and succeed in football very seriously.
“My role will be to ensure this continues to happen while developing both male and female footballing talent and protecting and progressing Brisbane Roar’s characteristic style of play and philosophy.”
Brisbane General Manager Sean Dobson:
With Ken’s expertise, experience and contacts, we can ensure that the men’s, women’s and youth programs have strong and equal support,” Dobson said.
“Ken shares our football philosophy with Head Coaches Mike Mulvey and Belinda Wilson which will keep Brisbane Roar’s style progressive and ahead of the pack, as shown in our pre-season results so far.”
