Solórzano returns to Brisbane for remainder of the seasonPosted: January 29, 2014
After a couple of weeks back in Brisbane training with the club, today news has emerged that Costa Rican attacker Jean Carlos Solórzano has signed a half season contract with Brisbane Roar. The 26 year old, who has had spells with Melbourne Victory, Alajuelense and Puntarenas since his first spell here in Brisbane. Mulvey said today that the football department were looking for depth following the departure of Kwame Yeboah to Borussia Monchengladbach at the turn of the year. JCS is more than capable of providing depth, and he’s capable of adding to the squad in his own right.
Mulvey went on to say that they were looking for someone to come off the bench and provide a goal scoring threat as the finals get closer, and I think that was one of the most important needs to fill. Brandon Borrello is a nice young player, but if you were needing a goal with 20-25mins to play, you would prefer to have a more experienced, proven option to turn to. Now with the signing of JCS, in addition to one of Henrique or Petratos on the bench, Brisbane now how legitimate options to change the game in the final third.
Despite the recent announcement surrounding the departure of Besart Berisha, this move, although in the same area of the park, is of little consequence to the search for a #9 next season. Depending on how he goes, JCS could become that player, however it wouldn’t surprise if there was a new striker alongside him in the squad next season. Solórzano has been given the #16 shirt, and will be available for selection against Central Coast on Sunday afternoon.
