Brisbane Roar have exited the inaugural FFA Cup in the round of 16 with a 2-0 loss away to Adelaide United tonight. A first half goal from Bruce Djite and a second just after the half time break for Sergio Cirio. From all reports it wasn’t the finest game that Brisbane has ever played and the brief clips we’ve all seen of the goals did little do dispel that; while the midfield from all reports was disjointed and struggled to gain control of the game. A lot has been made of the fact Brisbane has only beaten one (Newcastle who haven’t beaten anyone to date) A-League team out of four this preseason, but when you look at who hasn’t played in those game Brisbane still has a lot of room to improve. Hopefully that improvement happens over the next three weeks in the lead-up to round 1.

Up next: Brisbane reportedly have one more trial game in Brisbane in the lead-up to the new season, possibly against Olympic FC before they start their A-League premiership defence against the same opposition.
