Urawa Reds join Brisbane’s Asian Champions League Group.Posted: December 13, 2014
The puzzle that is Brisbane’s 2015 AFC Asian Champions League group is beginning to take shape, with Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds taking their spot in the group. With Gamba Osaka’s 3-1 win over Montedio Yamagata today, Urawa – who were qualified regardless of the result today- have been placed in the ‘Japan 2’ slot which happens to be in Group G (Brisbane’s group).
As things stand Brisbane will be set for a trip to Saitama on -March 4- , with the return leg here in Brisbane on matchday 6 – May 5-. Urawa, who finished second in the J-League this season, will join Brisbane and Korean FA Cup winner Suwon Bluewings in Group G. The final place in the group will be determined in the New Year through the playoff system. That playoff winner could be Matt Smith’s new team Bangkok Glass, Beijing Guo’an – a side who Brisbane played in the 2012 Group Stage-, Indian side Bengaluru or Johor Ta’Zim from Malaysia.

Round 1: Feb 4: Johor Darul Ta’zim (Malaysia) vs. Bengaluru (India)
Round 2: Feb 10: Bangkok Glass (Thailand) vs. winner of playoff Round 1
Round 3: Feb 17: Beijing Guo’an (China) vs. winner of playoff Round 2
