2015 NPL draw released, Brisbane enter u/18 side opening pathwayPosted: January 9, 2015
The draw for the 2015 NPL Queensland has been unveiled with Brisbane’s first game scheduled to be in round 2 up in Toowoomba against the SWQ Thunder on March 7. The first home game will take place in round 5 against Western Pride, however there will be a clash against Brisbane Strikers on the 21st at Roar’s home base of Perry Park. Due to Brisbane’s National Youth League commitments, the round 1 clash against Palm Beach Sharks had to be postponed, with Roar away to Perth that weekend. The squad is expected to be largely the same as that which contests the NYL currently, with the possibility of a couple of overage players coming in, similarly to how Yandi Sofiyan joined the team last year. Full draw is below:
Meanwhile Brisbane Roar have also confirmed their participation in the NPL u/18’s competition this weekend, taking over the Queensland Academy of Sport program. The u/18 side will feature kids as young as 15 years old, and will give the states best young players a direct pathway into the Brisbane Roar setup. The development of that pathway will hopefully see more talented young players from Brisbane get their chance in the A-League with the Roar in future years. Former Brisbane Roar defender Josh McCloughan will coach the u/18 side this season, who will play their games will be played at Dunmore Park in Toowong. The u/18 squad is listed on the Roar’s website, while the full draw for their games is here.
