Former Players Wrap: 14/04/2015Posted: April 14, 2015
Starting with the positives, Matt Smith was named the Thai Premier League player of the month for March. In 5 games over the month, Smith scored 2 goals and was apart of keeping 3 clean sheets to get Bangkok off to a flying start to the new season.
One piece of transfer news this week, with Mitch Nichols seeing his loan with Perth Glory terminated barely 24 hours before their salary cap breaches were confirmed. Nichols returns to J.2 League side Cerezo Osaka to fight for a place in a side trying to return to the top tier of Japanese Football.
It’s the time of the season where teams begin to fear relegation, and the first former Brisbane player to suffer that fate was Stuart McLaren- manager of Stirling Albion. Stirling haven’t had the greatest season with just 3 wins from 33 games. A 2-1 loss at the weekend against Brechin City confirmed their fate.
Another former player in danger of relegation is Mensur Kurtishi, who joined Italian Serie B side AS Varese in January after being released by Brisbane. With five games remaining Varese sit bottom of the table, 12 points from safety so their relegation to the Serie C1 could be confirmed as early as this weekend if they fail to be Avelino.
