Former Players update- 01/06/15Posted: June 1, 2015
I was about to post this last week, and then the John Aloisi news broke so I held it over for another week. In addition to the weekends update, it also includes a season recap for those whose season has recently come to an end. I’ve also updated the NPL and Local league tables to include more players at that level.
Bit of a down year for the former Brisbane players over in Europe with most players struggling for game time due to either contractual or injury issues.
Robbie Kruse and Michael Zullo missed the majority of their respective seasons de to ankle and knee injuries respectively, while Tommy Oar and Dario Vidosic dropped down the pecking order due their contracts running down.
The bright spot in Europe would without doubt be Stef Nijland who became a valuable rotation player for his new team PEC Zwolle this season, chiming in with 11 goals.
Over in the Asian leagues that have concluded both Susak and Adnan had reasonably successful campaigns, with both experiencing game time in the AFC Cup.
Back home here in the A-League it was obviously another standout year for Besart Berisha, with another 15 goals added to his tally. Attacking partner Kosta Barbarouses also did well for the double winners with 6 goals, while young defender Jason Geria experienced something of a breakout campaign establishing himself at right back.
Across town it was a mixed bag for City’s batch for ex Roar boys, with Erik Paartalu and Tando Velaphi the best. Youngster Ross Archibald also made his A-League debut for the Citizens.
Up in Sydney It was another standout campaign for the now FC captain Alex Brosque with 9 goals to his name. Meanwhile a long term injury to Sasa Ognenovski ended his season early on in the piece, and possibly his career.
Finally out west it was a tough campaign for Diogo Ferreira who struggled to get into the side, while Mitch Nichols was a regular in the squad before returning to Japan.
