Brisbane will be without experienced trio Michael Theo, Matt McKay and Luke DeVere in Friday night’s clash with Liverpool. Theo is missing the clash as he continues to rehab following the Wrist and Groin injuries which ruined his season last time around, while Matt McKay is being rested after his participation in the Socceroos World Cup qualifier in against Kyrgyzstan last month limited his time off.

DeVere’s  situation however is a bit more serious as the defender has been on crutches since being substituted in just the 8th minute of the Villarreal friendly last month. It’s now likely that DeVere will miss almost the entire pre-season, including the FFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Western Sydney, and possibly even the round 1 clash against the same opposition.

In the meantime looking ahead to Friday, new signing Jamie Maclaren will make his first appearance in Brisbane colours against the English side. In addition to Maclaren, experienced players such as Shane Stefanutto, Thomas Broich, Luke Brattan and Henrique are all fit and available for selection in John Aloisi’ first game as Brisbane manager.

There will also likely be a bunch of Brisbane’s younger cubs on display, including the four that Aloisi promoted to the squad last month – Nick D’Agostino, Luke Pavlou, Abrahim Yango and Mitchell  Hore-, while with Theo injured and Fraser Chalmers moving on there will be a need for a goalkeeper. Youngsters Denver Crickmore or Tomislav Bilic are in line to back up Jamie Young.
