Latest on the ownership saga

In recent weeks outgoing Chaiman Chris Fong has been upbeat and bullish about a sale going through, however it now appears that the Bakries are scrambling to find a new plan after the reported buyer backed out. A report in the paper today claimed that a European consortium of German and Italian owners turned down the chance to purchase the Roar for $18 million.

The report goes on to say that Fong is now in Paris looking for an owner, however at this point it seems like a sale is unlikely, which could prompt anything from liquidation of ‘Brisbane Roar pty ltd’ to FFA stepping in and removing the Bakries.

With the ownership group vowing not to spend any more money on the Roar, and with next round of player wages due at the end of this week, in addition to the QRU case set to go to court next week, things could be heading towards a conclusion.

On the QRU, their CEO Jim Carmichael has come on defending former Roar MD -and now current Chief Financial Officer at the QRU- Sean Dobson, saying that the recent claims about the Bakrie Group’s investment in the Qld economy is a lie before adding that they’re “sick and tired” of the Bakries blaming problems on current and former Roar staff members.  Here’s the link to the story containing those and other quotes, written by Vince Rugari.

It was also revealed that Stadiums Queensland is added to the list of public creditors owed money by the Roar in relation to the clubs use of Robina Stadium on the Gold Coast for this years AFC Champions League campaign.  Stadiums Queensland join the QRU, Beecraft Laundry Services and Hart Sports in going public about being owed money.

Meanwhile, the club has today announced a new front of shirt sponsor for the upcoming season with insurance broker Steadfast taking the place for the upcoming season. Previously Steadfast held the back of shirt sponsorship. We also might have seen a glimpse of the kit for the new season. Below is the shirt Brisbane will wear for their FFA Cup clash tomorrow night.
