6 Matildas depart Roar in W-League shake-upPosted: August 17, 2015
The financial turmoil at Brisbane Roar isn’t just affecting the A-League side, with six high profile members if the sides W-League players departing for pastures new.
Sunny Franco, Kim Carroll, Hayley Raso, Larissa Crummer, Laura Alleway and Elise Kellond-Knight have all been confirmed to be departing the Roar.
Kellond-Knight -a foundation member of the Roar side- has taken up a contract in Germany, while Franco and Alleway have signed for Sydney FC and Melbourne City respectively. The futures of Crummer, Raso and Carroll are yet to be officially confirmed.
Five of the six players played a part in the Australian side which made it to the 1/4 finals of the recent Women’s World Cup, while Carroll was unlucky to miss selection having been involved in prior squads. Add Nadine Angerer, who will retire at the end of the current US season and it figures to be a vastly different ladies team this time around.
Brisbane, who finished a disappointing sixth in the league last season, representing the first time the Roar have missed the finals in the history of the competition. Belinda Wilson now has the tough job of replacing the six international stars.
The news of the six Matildas leaving comes fresh off the news that the Bakrie Group have again failed to make player and staff payments again, leaving the FFA demanding a resolution to the sales process.
For now though, we’d like to wish Kim, Hayley, Elise, Sunny, Laura and Larissa all the rest in their future endeavors.
