Brisbane, Hingert agree to two year extensionPosted: February 5, 2016
Fresh off last week’s announcement that Jamie Young had re-signed, Brisbane have kept the momentum going with the re-signing of a key member of the back four. As was indicated by Marco Monteverde earlier in the week, Jack Hingert has penned a two year extension which will keep him in Brisbane through the 2017-18 season.
“I am happy here and I look forward to the next couple of years in Brisbane”, Hingert said to the clubs official website.
Hingert, 25, has had an up and down time here in Brisbane since arriving in 2011, where he initially started out as the back-up to Ivan Franjic. Despite that and a string of injuries, Hingert has made 88 appearances in all competitions for the Roar over the past five seasons.
This season however, Hingert has ensconced himself into the starting line-up, making that right back spot his own, leaving Jerome Polenz on the outer. So far this season Hingert has started all 18 matches in all competitions this season, playing every minute of every game.
Brisbane’s defensive depth is strong, however there’s still work to be done in securing the future’s of central defensive trio Jade North, James Donachie and Daniel Bowles. At left back however there appears to be a transition upcoming with Shane Stefanutto set to retire at seasons end, and with nominal understudy Corey Brown flattering to deceive it could be an area that John Aloisi and Craig Moore look to strengthen with an external option.
Brown however, now 22, finds himself in a similar position to that which Hingert was in around this time last year, so while he hasn’t produced the solidity required to date, there’s precedent that it could begin to click if he’s given enough time. With the likes of Craig Goodwin, Dylan Murnane and ex Roar winger Michael Zullo all potential options, im still in favour of heading in that direction.
With Young and Hingert now having their future’s secured, attention will now turn to the remaining 10 Brisbane players remaining out of contract. In addition this week on Hingert’s extension, it was also suggested that fellow defenders Daniel Bowles and James Donachie are likely to follow suit in the coming days.
Others who remain out of contract include fellow defenders Jade North and Shane Stefanutto, midfield trio Javier Hervas, Devante Clut and Steven Lustica, plus attackers Brandon Borrello, Henrique and Jean Carlos Solórzano.
