Brisbane announce new training and administration base

Brisbane Roar and the Logan City Council have today announced a deal which will see the Roar move their training and administrative base to a site at the Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre.

Since departing Ballymore 18 months ago, the Roar have based themselves in the offices at Perry Park, while the team has trained at the Griffith University Nathan Campus this season.

Amongst the facilities at the training base will be a field with the same dimensions as Suncorp Stadium, two additional pitches, brand new dressing rooms, function and meeting rooms, a new administration building and the potential room to start an academy. Football Brisbane are also exploring the possibility of a synthetic pitch at the site.

As part of the deal, Football Brisbane will move into the facility with the Roar, bringing their administrative base and aged representative sides to the facility. With Football Queensland also based out of Logan at Meakin Park , the region is becoming the home of Football in South-East Queensland.

Logan City Council deputy Mayor Russell Lutton was quoted as saying “We chased the Roar and we got them”. That would indicate the Roar will be the primary tenant at their new base, something the club hasn’t had the luxury of at their previous bases of Perry Park, Ballymore and Richlands.

There’s no timetable yet as to when construction will begin, and Brisbane will remain at their current training base for the time being until the facilities are completed.

While it would have been great for this to be built in the City of Brisbane, it’s great that the club will finally have a place to call home after years of campaigning for one.
