Brisbane Roar sign Brett HolmanPosted: September 1, 2016
Brisbane Roar have this afternoon announced their biggest signing of the 2016-17 pre-season to date with the arrival of former Socceroo Brett Holman.
Holman, 32, has spent the past three seasons in the Middle-East with Al Nasr and Emirates and arrives in Brisbane having signed a ‘long term’ deal.
Prior to his time in the Middle-East, Holman had an extensive career in Europe, winning the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar before joining then EPL side Aston Villa.
Perhaps best know for his goals against Ghana and Serbia in the 2010 World Cup, Holman made 63 appearances for the Socceroos from 2006-2013, scoring 9 goals.
“Brett is a quality player and exactly what we are looking at bringing into the club”. “His club career and international careers have been played at the highest standard. His goal against Serbia in the World Cup was stunning.”
– Brisbane Roar Coach John Aloisi.
Holman adds to the midfield mix at the Roar and is likely to put pressure on incumbent #10 Dimitri Petratos for his spot in the side.
The signing of Holman takes Brisbane’s squad to 22 players, with three visa spots still open to improve the squad. Despite having 22 players below, there’s a chance that the likes of Caletti and D’Agostino are on Full-Time Youth contracts which are excluded from the first team squad limit of 23.
With the potential for a full Asian Champions League campaign this term in addition to the A-League a case can be made for further reinforcements before the start of the season.
