Former Players Wrap 6/9/2016Posted: September 5, 2016
Due to the international break this weeks edition of the former players wrap is shorter than most, and the usual tables have been condensed into one.
– Jonti Richter retires
One of the last remaining players from the foundation Roar squad confirmed his retirement this week. Following the Strikers penalty shootout loss to Redlands United last Sunday, the 33 year old has called time on his career following an injury riddled recent past.
Richter made 19 appearances for Miron Bleiberg’s side in the first season of the A-League, before going on to play for New Zealand Knights. After a brief stint in England with Tamworth, Richter returned to Brisbane in 2009 to play for the Strikers where he’s been an important part of the side’s push to Queensland State League and NPL Queensland success.
-Diogo Ferreira joins Persib
After being released by Perth Glory at the end of the last A-League season, former Roar utility Diogo Ferreira has a new club having joined Indonesian side Persib. Ferreira, 26, joins former Roar striker Sergio van Djik at the club.
– Kurtishi keeps scoring
Mensur Kurtishi struggled to make an impact here in the A-League two years ago, but he’s scoring regularly for his new club First Vienna with his latest two goal effort adding the finishing touches to their latest win over St. Polten II making it four goals in five games this season. Here’s the first goal, and here’s the second.
