Brisbane sign Manuel Arana Rodriguez on one year deal

Brisbane Roar have signed Spanish wingier Manuel Arana Rodriguez on a one year contract. The deal, first reported by Marco Monteverde in the Courier Mail last night, is yet to be officially announced by the Roar, but was mentioned in their members email regarding the new playing kits this afternoon.

Rodriguez, 31 arrives in Brisbane with considerable experience in both La Liga and the Segunda division in his homeland.

Most recently Rodriguez played for Mallorca in the second division of Spanish Football, scoring 10 goals in 52 appearances.

Rodriguez arrives reportedly as a right winger, but according to various websites he can also play on the left hand side in addition to a central striking position, so he figures to add some versatility to John Aloisi’ attacking options.

If indeed Rodriguez has been signed to play on the right, he’ll be fighting the likes of Brandon Borrello, Dimitri Petratos and Jayden Prasad for playing time.

The signing of Rodriguez takes Brisbane’s squad up to 22 players, with a total of 24 when including scholarship duo Konstandopoulos and Caletti. There is also now only two visa spots available, however all three signed will be eligible for the Asian Champions League campaign due to the AFC’s 3+1 campaign.
