Rowles selected for Aus-23 training campPosted: January 23, 2017
Brisbane defender Kye Rowles has been selected in the Australian u-23 squad, which is the first stage of preparation for the 2018 u-23 Asian Cup which will be held in China.
Joining Kye Rowles in the squad are two former Brisbane players in defender Lachlan Jackson and midfielder Devante Clut.
The training camp, due to take place at the end of the month on the Central Coast, will keep Rowles out of contention for the AFC Champions League qualifier against either Global FC or Tampines Rovers.
This training camp comes at the worst possible time for the Roar, with five games in 14 days coming up for John Aloisi’ squad. Things could have been worse for the Roar however, with the expected call-up of Brandon Borrello failing to materialise.
The camp is the first step of preparations for Josep Gombau’ u-23 side on the road to the 2018 AFC u-23 Championships, with qualifying for the tournament set to get underway in July. The tournament itself is scheduled for January 2018.
