Reinaldo at PSM Makassar
One player that we previously haven’t been able to place at a club is Brazilian striker Reinaldo Elias da Costa, who is now playing in Indonesia with PSM Makassar. Since leaving Brisbane back in January 2011, Reinaldo has played in various parts of Asia including Qatar, China and Malaysia and had a stint back in his homeland.

In his most recent match Reinaldo found the back of the net for PSM in their 2-0 win over Perseru Serui, and you can see the goal here.

Reinaldo is joined in Indonesia by former teammate Sergio van Djik who plays for Persib.

Goals galore
In addition to Reinaldo’s goal for PSM, countless other former Brisbane players found the back of the net last week. In Europe Kwame Yeboah scored for the Borussia Monchengladbach II side in their 4-0 win over Rot Weiss Ahlen, while David Williams had a goal and an assist for Haladas in their 4-2 win at the weekend. You can see video of Williams’ goal and assist here.

In Asia, Sayed Mohamed Adnan scored a brace for Bahraini club Al-Hidd in their 2-0 win over Lebanese club Safa on Matchday 3 of the AFC Cup. We posted video of Adnan’s strike last night, but if you missed it you can view it here. Meanwhile Dimitri Petratos had an assist in Ulsan Hyundai’s win over Gangwon.

Back here in Australia, Abrahim Yango was amongst the scorers last night for Easts in their 5-0 BPL win over Ipswich Knights, while Alex Brosque opened the scoring for Sydney in their win over Melbourne City.

Rodic at Sydney Olympic
Another of those who departed the Young Roar set-up at the conclusion of the 2016-17 NYL campaign was Mark Rodic, with the young defender returning to his hometown of Sydney and joining Sydney Olympic for their 2017 NPL New South Wales campaign.

Rodic joined the Brisbane youth set-up ahead of the 2015-16 season after trialling with the A-League side over the 2015 pre-season, however with Dane Ingham successfully converting to right back over the last six months playing time has dried up for Rodic.

Over the last few weeks we’ve managed to find out where the rest of those players let go from the Young Roar set-up have wound up, with Rodic the final piece of the puzzle.

Joseph Champness is currently in Portugal on loan with Academica and will join Harrison Sawyer in Newcastle for the start of their pre-season in July. Joseph Duckworth, Hayden McHenery and Dylan Wenzel-Halls all returned to Western Pride, while Andre Jannese –Moreland Zebras-, Danny Kim and Jayden Prasad –Hume City- are playing in NPL Victoria for the 2017 season.

International Debuts
Finally this week there were a couple of significant debuts in the recent international window with two former Brisbane attackers making their first appearances for their new countries.

Despite making 17 appearances for Albania from 2006-2009, Besart Berisha made his debut for Kosovo in their recent 2018 World Cup Qualifier after FIFA accepted his request to switch nationalities.

Meanwhile Jai Ingham snubbed interest from Samoa and opted to play for New Zealand and made his debut in a home World Cup Qualifier against Fiji. Jai’s younger brother and Brisbane defender Dane also made his debut for New Zealand in that game.

Henrique was an unused substitute vs. Thai Honda, after playing in United’s first 6 games of the season.

Kaludjerovic was an unused sub vs. Ubon after playing in both of Port’s home & away ACL qualifiers, and in 4 (of the first 6) Thai League games.

Since Reinaldo scored (84′) for PSM in their 2-0 friendly win over Perseru Serui, he scored a brace (3′; 75′ P) in their April 1st 2-2 draw with Barito Putera. He was a 2nd half sub when PSM hosted Persipura in a friendly 2-2 draw at stadium Mattoanging on April 5. PSM hosts Persela Lamongan in the Liga opening round on April 17.

Van Dijk scored 3 goals in the President’s Cup group stage, then injured his left knee in Persib’s quarter-final win over Mitra Kukar and has not been listed since, missing Persib’s semi-final loss on penalties to eventual cup-winner Pusamania Borneo, and 3rd place 1-0 play-off win over Semen Padang. He missed a friendlies against PSMS Medan and Persika, and is unlikely to line up alongside new team-mates Michael Essien and Carlton Cole this weekend’s last pre-season against Bali Utd. Persib hosts Arema in the Liga opening match on April 15.

    4 May 2017: Perseru v PSM 1-2 (Reinaldo Da Costa 45+5) 1,600

After the game, PSM manager Alberts praised his medical staff for their work after first-half equalising striker Reinaldo Da Costa collapsed unconscious following a 77m elbow knock:

“Life savers…..our medical team Dr Arga and physiotherapist Wahyo saved the life of our player Reinaldo on the field during our match in Serui….Reinaldo was elbowed in the face and fell down…he swallowed his tongue at that incident….a life threatening situation….it has only 8 minutes to help him….and our medical team managed to control his situation….a big thank you to our medical team”

After hospitalisation, Reinaldo missed the win against Arema but made a rapid recovery, featuring in PSM’s recent win and draw to go 2nd, ahead of Arema on GD in the Liga, behind Persib.
