2017-18 Round 8 A-League PreviewPosted: November 23, 2017
2017-18 Round 82 Match Preview After a first win of the season last week at home to Melbourne City, Brisbane Roar make their first of two successive trips to the Harbour City. Next weekend will see Brisbane face the Red and Black half of Sydney, however for this weekend it’s a trip to defending Champions Sydney FC, who lifted a third trophy of 2017 when they won the FFA Cup on Wednesday.
As mentioned Brisbane go into this weekends encounter on the back of a much needed first win of the season, putting in their best performance of the season so far in a 3-1 win over Melbourne City. For their part Sydney FC bounced back from a disappointing showing away to Central Coast with a win over Newcastle in a top of the table clash last weekend, before emerging victorious in the Cup Final.

Coming off a first win of the season John Aloisi will be reluctant to make any changes to a winning side, which should see the makeshift central defensive pairing of Jacob Pepper and Avram Papadopoulos continue. The return from international duty of Dane Ingham and the now fit Ivan Franjic are contenders for a spot in the matchday squad to provide some additional defensive options off the bench.
Expected Brisbane Roar XI– Young, Hingert, Pepper, Papadopoulos, O’Toole, Caletti, McKay, Holman, Ben Khalfallah, Bautheac, Maccarone.
Substitutes– White, Franjic, Oxborrow, Skapetis, D’Agostino.
Omitted– Ingham, Reardon.
Last season’s double winners completed the domestic set on Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory over Adelaide in the 2017 FFA Cup Final and the Sky Blues have marked themselves down as a strong contender to retain their title with a strong start to the season.
Having played in that FFA Cup Final midweek there will no doubt be some tired legs in Graham Arnold’s squad, however as of now there has been no indication that anyone has been ruled out or would be rested from this weekends encounter. Amongst those potentially in doubt include Alex Brosque and Milos Ninkovic who went off in the second half of normal time due to niggling injuries, and Michael Zullo and Adrian Mierzewski who suffered cramp in the latter stages of extra time.
